Last night, we caught a repeat of Walking with Cave Men on the Discovery Channel. It was an astonishing experience! After watching it, I wonder at the mindset of so-called 'creationists'. I don't see how any thinking person could watch this without feeling the presence of a Master Plan. Call it God - call it whatever.

I do not consider myself a 'religious' person. As Katherine Hepburn was quoted in the paper today amid the report of her death - I do not fear hell - I don't particularly care about heaven - but watching this show I could see the hand of God. Unless you are locked into following some sort of religious 'party line', it had to be affecting! The story of man as presented by archeological findings is much more awe inspiring than the Biblical story of 'Adam & Eve'....

Reparations for ancient grievances is a joke. I refer to both Indian land claims and now - talk of slavery reparations extracted from companies that profited from slavery more than 130 years ago.

These claims can't be compared to 'reparations' for Holocaust victims. In that instance, 'recovery of stolen goods' would be a more apt term. Many of those whose property was stolen - or their children - are still alive. Their assets are tangible and traceable - X dollars went to X Bank, X jewelry or paintings are in the possession of X.

How, in the name of common sense, can comparisons be made between such relatively recent crimes, whose principals still survive - and reparations to an entire class of citizens based on transgressions - real or assumed - of the ancestors of present day targets of such claims. Let me note that I really hate to side with the insurance industry and other 'multibillion-dollar corporations' - but the whole issue is illogical - a manifestation. of gimme.

FYI - this writer had an Indian great-grandmother - really. Excuse me now while I go claim my neighbor's land.... (point made).

A recent comic strip in our newspaper had one of the characters receiving an e-mail from "Jesus" saying "please help - I'm being held hostage by the radical right!" Is anyone else tired of receiving e-mails or reading articles that seem to make some special sort of claim on Christianity? You don't love George Bush? Bad Christian - bad person! You don't agree with him and his administration? Bad Christian - bad person. Honestly - it's enough to give Christianity a bad name....
